From the early days of the industrial revolution the need to transport quarried and mined materials to canals, rail heads and road transport depots led to the proliferation of horse drawn tramroads. These tramroads now form well-worn pathways in our historic landscape.
Over the past five years the Brecon Beacons Park Society has been leading a project, in collaboration with the National Park Authority, Heneb and Cadw, to significantly enhance the Historic Environment Record regarding these important assets and, where appropriate, put forward ‘scheduling’ cases to protect them for future generations.
Roy Manning will describe key features of the tramroads and share the aspiration of the project.
