About Y Gaer

Y Gaer is the new cultural hub for Brecon. It is an attraction for both locals and visitors to the town, who want to find out more about the rich heritage of the town itself and its surrounding areas. The new building blends with the original classical Shire Hall, and  contains the refurbished Brecknock Museum & Art Gallery and its unique Victorian court room, a brand new library, and education and community rooms; there is also a café.

There are peaceful corners for study and reflection in the atrium and outdoors in the landscaped Captain’s Walk Gardens, from which you can glimpse the hills beyond. Y Gaer has something to attract people of all ages and interests and is a great starting point for visitors seeking to understand how the past has shaped the present in our beautiful town. Permanent and temporary exhibitions boast an extensive range of artefacts, paintings, furniture and digital interpretation displays to delight all.

Please note that a Changing Places Toilet can be found at Y Gaer.
